About Our Church

Weekly Worship Services

Sunday worship services begin 10am in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Summer worship services begin at 9:30am. Holy Communion is celebrated on alternating Sundays and on all high holidays such as Christmas and Easter.

Sunday School

Trinity’s Sunday School seeks to nurture the faith development of our children as they learn about God and His grace and love for them. Our program is at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings from September through May. It is for children from age 3 through the eighth grade, ending with confirmation. The children are in age-appropriate classes. All the children in Sunday School present a Christmas pageant for the congregation in December. The children may sing in our Sunday services at other times. The year’s program concludes with a picnic in June.

Bible Class

Each Sunday from September through June, Pastor Rehm leads a Bible Class from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. in the Upper Room. The class is normally based on a Biblical book, although at times a special topic is discussed. Since Dr. Rehm is a scholar of the Old Testament, his Bible Classes prove to be very insightful. A light breakfast is served from 8:45 - 9:00 a.m. The Bible Class is conveniently scheduled at the same time as Sunday School for children. All members, teens, and guests are welcome to attend.

Fellowship Events

Trinity members have several opportunities each year for social interaction, entertaining activities, and shared meals. A typical schedule usually includes a fall gathering, Oktoberfest, Christmas pot-luck, Black History dinner, and a spring fellowship meeting featuring a program on a certain foreign country or area, for example, Egypt.

Mary-Martha Guild

The Guild is a service organization made up of women of the congregation. All are welcome to join. There are monthly meetings, except in July and August, which are used to plan various activities. Members may also join the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. The Guild sponsors an annual fundraising brunch to benefit Concordia College in Selma, Alabama. It also helps with congregational fellowship meetings as needed. There are various social-service projects, such as gathering food for needy families.

Youth Group

The Youth Group is made up of all youth from confirmation through high school age. Meetings are usually held monthly during the winter months. Various service projects are undertaken in addition to social activities. All youth are encouraged to join to share their faith and have a good time.

CHURCH BUILDING HISTORY

The Crane Manor House was built in 1852 by Charles Carmer using granite from the quarry near the Bronx River. In 1873 Col Alexander Crane purchased the house and expaned it into a 21 room mansion in the shape of a cross on an estate of 32 acres. Col Crance lived in the house until his death in 1930.

In 1943 Dr. Millar McClintock purchased the Crane estate including the Manor House. He had hoped to convert the house into senior citizen housing but the village did not approve the plan. In the late 1940's he therefore began to sell the property; part was sold for private homes and Stonehouse Road was made to encircle the Manor House.

In 1949 McClintock sold the Manor House and the remaining 4 acres to Trinity Lutheran Church. Trinity renovated the house for church use and had their first service in 1952.

CHURCH CONGREGATION HISTORY

Trinity was established on January 10, 1924 and soon afterwards acquired property on Alkamont and Scarsdale Avenues.

In 1949 the congregation clebrated its 25th anniversary and Dr. August Brustat was called as pastor.

From 1955 to 1979 Trinity operated a Christian Elementary School. Since 1979 the Alcott Montessori School has occupied the building.

The "Inviting Christ" statue, a gift from the Eichhammer family, was erected in 1964.

Rev Merlin Meyer succeeded Dr. Brustat and served as pastor from 1971 to 1997.

In 1998 Dr. Merlin Rehm, the current pastor, began his service at Trinity. Under his direction the congergation has grown and new actives such as Vaction Bible School have been introduced.
